This is a great opportunity for a committed environmental professional to provide the lead in the Council’s Climate Emergency response, to improve environmental sustainability throughout the Council and to support the drive to net zero in all the communities across South Derbyshire.

We’ve committed to make everything the Council does carbon neutral by 2030 and to ensure that the communities and businesses of South Derbyshire make a successful transition to zero carbon by 2050.
We’ve already made a good start. Our Climate and Environment Plan has been independently assessed as one of the best in the UK. We’ve reduced our own carbon emissions by 19%, but now we really need to push on.
You’ll take the lead in making sure we deliver the Councils Climate and Environment Action Plan, including co-ordinating the Council’s adaptations across all its activities, monitoring progress to net zero and keeping the Plan up to date. You’ll need to be well organised, influential and show creative thinking to find ways to decarbonise our transport fleet, leisure centres, social housing stock and offices.
You will also need to engage and inspire our local communities and businesses to find ways to help them reach net zero by 2050. It’s a complex but exciting and fulfilling challenge.
The Council has been committed to environmental improvement and has held the ISO14001 Environmental management standard for over 14 years.
You must have a degree level qualification or equivalent and a good knowledge of the principles of environmental sustainability. You’ll need to be well organised, have the ability to influence and work collaboratively with others and be able to think creatively.
